Low-Profile Exosuit Device
For this project, I worked on a team of three to design this low-profile exosuit device. Light, portable, and nearly concealable, this device is made to add propulsive power to the elderly walking gait. With age, muscle and tendons lose their elasticity and suffer atrophy, resulting in a power deficit at the ankle during plantarflexion. This device adds power to the pushoff in the gait by building tension in a string, providing extra force to the ankle that works in parallel with existing muscles.
This was a multifaceted project, requiring knowledge of biomechanics, design for manufacture and assembly, FEA, control systems, thorough CAD modeling, and many other areas. |
